A band comprised of a diamond, emerald, amethyst, ruby, emerald, sapphire and topaz, spelling out DEAREST. Set in solid 9 karat gold.
I was so excited to find this piece! I have been on the hunt for an acrostic ring for some time now. Acrostic jewellery spells out a word using the first letter of each gemstone. It was created so the giver of the piece could relay a loving sentiment or signify an important occasion. 'Dearest' and 'Regard' were popular phrases. It first became popular in the French court in the 18th century and was apparently invented by a jeweller named Jean-Baptise Mellerio, who was a favourite of Marie Antoinette.
Size P (17.75mm internal diameter)
Condition
This piece is in good condition. The piece looks to be antique and there are signs of its age on the gold. You'll notice the diamond is slightly smaller than the other stones (see pictures), but it is offset well with the lovely London bridge setting.
